It’s hard to define makeup in words. Summarizing in a single line, makeup is an art used to amplify the beauty of an individual. Learning to use it takes a lot of time and effort. But when you reach its expertise, you can use human beings as a blank canvas on which you can create your masterpiece. Below are 10 makeup dos and don’ts, which will help you on your journey to becoming an expert makeup artist.

10 Makeup Dos And Don’ts

1- Foundation

Foundation, as the name itself suggests, is the basis of any makeup look. On one hand, where foundation looks very amazing and flawless, if not done with proper technique, it can look cagey and take your look into a downward spiral making it sadly unattractive. While people love that tan look, sometimes they go overboard with it and choose the shades that don’t go with their skin tone. It leads to a mismatched look and outlines of color differences become very prominent. A differentiating line appears between skin and foundation. That is why one should always go that extra mile by visiting the shop to get themselves matched with their perfect shade of foundation.

2-Eyebrows

Let’s be honest eyebrows can take every makeup look to a whole other dimension. Eyebrows filled with the same shade as your natural eyebrows can give your look that extra oomph that is always desirable either for everyday wear or a party glam makeover. The only caution that should be taken when filling eyebrows is that you should never fill them with black. Yes, even if you have naturally black eyebrows always use dark brown and never black because it gives off the artificial effect of ruining your perfect makeup. The only exception of black eyebrow filling is Cosplay.

3- Lips

Lipstick, even when worn alone, can give your face a fresh look. But when applied with the full face of makeup, it completes the masterpiece of your work. Always choose a flattering shade for your lips and when you apply dark colors, make sure to clean the edges with concealer to get a clean effect. Moisturizing your lips beforehand is also a huge plus point as it pumps up your lips giving them a fuller look.

4- Contour

Contouring is the fear of every makeup artist. While everyone wants to achieve that snatched Kardashian effect, sometimes, it can turn into a complete disaster. It ends up looking like dirt on your face if not blended properly. A quick tip for beginner-level contouring is to apply a cream contour under your foundation. It will give you a cute, natural but snatched look.

5- Eye shadow

Eye shadow is the essence of every makeup look. It can vary from just a simple brown transition to a black smoky eye. One thing a makeup artist should always keep in mind is to blend the shadows seamlessly so that there are no harsh lines and the person is left with a well-blended and flawless effect. The key to blending a dark shade is going over it in circular motions with a lighter shade of that same tone. It will give you your desired finish.

6-Liner & Lashes

We all know that one person who rocks the winged liner look. But it gets so hard and messy when we try it on ourselves. Well, a quick hack to fix your liner trouble is to apply the wing free and then you can clean it afterward with a concealer. This way you will have that snatched winged liner that will open up your eyes and add a little drama to it. Working on the lashes is yet another compulsory step, whether you put on falsies or just curl your natural lashes with some mascara. If you choose to put falsies just make sure to cut them according to your eye size.

7-Concealer

While every single person is beautiful as is, sleep deprivation and long working days leave us girls with those dark baggy circles which no one likes. Well, we can’t treat them for good. But, we can cover them up with some concealer. Just get yourself concealer 2 shades lighter than your foundation and apply it on the dark circles, blend it and watch those bags go away.

8- Powders

The powder makes an essential step in face makeup. Cream products whether it is the foundation, concealer, or cream contour, everything has to be set with powder so that the creams don’t move around. To set your foundation just lightly go over your face with a translucent powder. For the concealer settings, put a heavy amount of powder under your eye (baking). But make sure to tap under your eye to smooth out any creases beforehand, or else you will end up with creasing. Once your concealer is set, you can dust off the powder. To set your cream contour, use a bronzer in a shade that goes with your skin tone. Lightly brush it over your contour to warm up the skin.

9- Highlighter

We all love that J-LO glows, and everyone can achieve it. All you need is a highlighter which is applied to the parts of the face where light strikes. These include high points of the cheekbone, nose, and cupids bow. Highlighter reflects when light hits it and gives that shine we admire on the Hollywood stars. You can also apply some on your collarbones to achieve a phenomenal diva glow.

10-Neck & Body Makeup

One thing that most make-up artists forget about is the neck. Foundation should always be blended till the neck to have a uniform tone. A little highlight and some bronzer can be applied as well to blend the neck with the face makeup. The same applies to the rest of the body parts that are exposed.

One last tip if you are new to the makeup world, practice your makeup at night before going to bed. Try new techniques, perfect your skills, wipe them off and go to sleep. In the morning you will be able to slay that look flawlessly.

So, these are the 10 makeup dos and don’ts that you can try to get a flawless makeup look.
